Description Enolase is a protein encoded by the ENO2 gene which is approximately 47,2 kDa. Enolase is localised to the cytoplasm and cell membrane and is involved in glucose metabolism, carbon metabolism, HIF-1 signalling pathway and de-adenylation-dependent mRNA decay. It is one of the three enolase isoenzymes found in mammals. It has neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties on number of central nervous system neurons. It binds to cultured neocortical neurons in the presence of calcium and promotes cell survival. The enolase alpha/alpha homodimer is expressed in embryo and in most adult tissues. The alpha/beta heterodimer and the beta/beta homodimer are found in striated muscle, and the alpha/gamma heterodimer and the gamma/gamma homodimer in neurons. Mutations in the ENO2 gene can result in granular cell tumors, pediatric ovarian dysgerminoma and olfactory neuroblastoma. The antibody STJ92926 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Enolase protein.
