Description Inhibin beta-A is a protein encoded by the INHBA gene which is approximately 47,4 kDa. Inhibin beta-A is secreted and is involved in the peptide hormone metabolism, signalling by NODAL, PEDF induced signalling, signalling pathways regulating pluripotency of stem cells and TGF-beta signalling pathway. This protein falls under the TGF-beta superfamily. Inhibins beta-A is involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation and also plays a role in eye, tooth and testis development. Inhibin beta-A is expressed in the eyes. Mutations in the INHBA gene may result in ovary adenocarcinoma and myasthenic syndrome. STJ96774 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Inhibin beta-A protein.

Function Inhibins and activins inhibit and activate, respectively, the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland. Inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins appear to oppose the functions of activins.
