Description SV2C is a protein encoded by the SV2C gene which is approximately 82,3 kDa. SV2C is localised to the cytoplasmic vesicle, secretory vesicle and synaptic vesicle membrane. It is involved in pathways such as the uptake and actions of bacterial toxins,the HIV life cycle and ECM-receptor interaction. It functions by controlling the regulation of secretion in neural and endocrine cells, enhancing low-frequency neurotransmission. It also positively regulates vesicle fusion by maintaining the readily releasable pool of secretory vesicles. SV2C is expressed in the cells of the nervous system. Mutations in the SV2C gene result in alcohol-related birth defects and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. STJ96442 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of SV2C protein.
